Sir Tim Rice has been named as the recipient of this year’s Olivier Special Award, which will be presented to him at the Olivier Awards ceremony on Sunday, April 15 at the Royal Opera House. As previously reported, West End stars Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton will host the ceremony, which will be carried on BBC television, radio and on the web.

Rice is a multi-award-winning lyricist perhaps best known for his collaborations with Andrew Lloyd Webber — including Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita, both of which are being revived on Broadway this year. Among his other credits are Chess, The Lion King, and Aida.
