Richard Schiff to Replace Kerry Shale in Menier Chocolate Factory’s SMASH!

Richard Schiff has joined the company of Jack Rosenthal’s SMASH!, to run March 24 – May 8 at the Menier Chocolate Factory, according to a report on Whatsonstage.com. He replaces the previously announced Kerry Shale, who has withdrawn for personal reasons. Tamara Harvey will direct the production.

Schiff’s other stage credits include Talley’s Folley and Underneath the Lintel. He is best known for his Emmy Award-winning work as Toby Ziegler on NBC’s The West Wing.

The play looks at the journey of a musical struggling to reach the stage. Rosenthal based it on his experiences of turning his television play Bar Mitzvah Boy into a musical, which ultimately reached the West End, running just 78 performances. The production also features the previously reported Tom Conti and Natalie Walter, along with Cameron Blakely and Josh Cohen.

The creative team includes production designer Paul Farnsworth, lighting designer Tim Mitchell, and sound designer Gareth Owen.
