Ralph Fiennes will play Prospero in Shakespeare’s The Tempest at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket, according to a report in Variety. Trevor Nunn will direct the production, which is scheduled to begin performances on August 27.

The play centers on an exiled monarch who has gained fantastic powers on a semi-deserted island. Additional casting will be announced shortly.

Fiennes received a Tony Award for his performance in Hamlet and a Tony nomination for his work in The Faith Healer. In addition, he was nominated for Academy Awards for his roles in The English Patient and Schindler’s List. Among his numerous other film credits are turns as Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter movies, as well as his soon-to-be-released film version of Shakespeare’s Coriolanus. In December, he is slated to begin filming a new James Bond movie, directed by Sam Mendes.
