Mary Poppins: The Live Cast Recording Set for April 5 Release

Walt Disney Records will release Mary Poppins: The Live Cast Recording on April 5. The album was recorded over the course of five performances at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne.

The 25-track disc will mark the first recording of the musical since the release of the 2005 London cast album, and it preserves not only the refinements that have been made to the show in the intervening years, but also a new song “Playing the Game.” The tune comes from George Stiles and Anthony Drewe and it was first heard in the Broadway production and is now in all productions worldwide.

Based on P.L. Travers’ cherished stories and the classic 1964 Walt Disney film, the show tells the tale of a most unusual nanny and includes the Academy Award-winning music and lyrics of Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, as well as new songs and additional music and lyrics from the Olivier Award-winning team of Stiles and Drewe.

In addition to the Australian production, which continues in Melbourne through April 1, before moving to Sydney’s Capitol Theatre, Mary Poppins is playing at the New Amsterdam Theatre on Broadway.
