Dame Judi Dench — who stars in the Yukio Mishima play Madame de Sade currently at the Wyndham’s Theatre — has been forced to withdraw from this coming weekend’s performances, according to www.whatsonstage.com.

She reportedly stumbled while leaving the theater last night, and has been diagnosed with a severely sprained ankle. A statement from the Donmar Warehouse, which is producing the play, says that doctors are advising “that she bring no weight to bear on her foot for the time being.” Her role as Madame de Montreuil will be covered by understudy Marjorie Hayward.

The play revolves around six women, who await the release of the Marquis de Sade from prison, while the world falls apart around them. The cast also includes Rosamund Pike, Frances Barber, Deborah Findlay, Fiona Button, and Jenny Galloway.
