Kate Budgen to Direct The Hairy Ape in London
Kate Budgen will direct Eugene O’Neill’s The Hairy Ape, to run May 16 – June 9 at Southwark Playhouse. Jean Chan will design the production, which will have lighting design by Richard Howell and sound design by Tom Gibbons.
O’Neill’s drama, set in the early 1920s, centers on a man who has spent his life shoveling coal on an ocean liner and what happens when the daughter of a wealthy industrialist decides to slum it, visiting him below deck. Casting will be announced in the near future.
Budgen’s recent directing credits include Rigor Mortis at Finborough Theatre, Crossed Keys at Eastern Angles, May Fair at Latitude Festival, and Miriam Gonzalez Durantez at Theatre 503.
