Arlene Phillips to Direct and Choreograph Starlight Express U.K. Tour

Arlene Phillips will direct and choreograph a U.K. tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Starlight Express, which will launch with an engagement at the New Wimbledon Theatre in London, running May 10-19.

Additional tour cities will include Bradford, Salford, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Bournemouth, Nottingham, Southend, Llandudno, Aberdeen, Hull, and Londonderry.

Phillips choreographed the original West End production of Starlight Express, and has directed and choreographed subsequent revivals. Among her other theater credits are Saturday Night Fever, The Sound of Music, Grease, We Will Rock You, and Jesus Christ Superstar. In addition, she has served as choreographer and judge on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

With lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, the show centers on a race between trains from around the globe, as imagined by a child. Casting will be announced in the near future.
