Michael Sheen to Star in and Co-Direct National Theatre Wales’ The Passion

Stage and screen star Michael Sheen will co-direct and star in the Port Talbot passion play The Passion for National Theatre Wales, according to WhatsOnStage.com.

The production is a three-day non-stop event which will start on the afternoon of Good Friday (April 22) and end on Easter Sunday evening (April 24) with action taking place across the town. It will feature a script by Owen Sheers, and co-direction by Bill Mitchell.

The cast will also include Matthew Aubrey, Nigel Barrett, Jordan Bernarde, Di Botcher, Darren Lawrence, John-Paul Macleod, Rhys Matthews, Francine Morgan, Kristian Phillips, Kyle Rees, Hywel Simons, David Rees Talbot, Gerald Tyler, and Matthew Woodyatt. More than a thousand local volunteer cast members will also perform.

Sheen’s many stage credits include Frost/Nixon, Amadeus, and Henry V. He also starred in the film version of Frost/Nixon as well as Twilight: New Moon and The Queen. He received an Emmy nomination for the HBO movie The Special Relationship. As previously reported, he will play the title role in Ian Rickson’s new production of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet which will play the Young Vic in 2011.
