Danny Bayne, Liam Doyle, Laurie Scarth, et al. Join Michael Ball in U.K. Hairspray Tour

Laurie Scarth will star as Tracy Turnblad alongside Liam Doyle as Link Larkin and Danny Bayne as Corny Colllins when the U.K. tour of Hairspray launches as the Cardiff Millennium Centre, running March 30 – April 24. As previously reported, Olivier Award winner Michael Ball, Brian Conley and Phill Jupitus will alternate playing Edna Turnblad, a role which they all have played in the West End, and Les Dennis will co-star as Edna’s husband Wilbur Turnblad in select tour cities.

The company will also feature Sandra Marvin (Motormouth Maybelle), Gillian Kirkpatrick (Velma Von Tussle), Wayne Robinson (Seaweed), Emma Dukes (Penny Pingleton), Clare Hulse (Amber Von Tussle) and Seliza Sebastian (Little Inez).

Hairspray, which continues through March 28 at the West End’s Shaftesbury Theatre, is written by Marc Shaiman, Scott Wittman, Thomas Meehan, and Mark O’Donnell, based on the film by John Waters, and is directed by Jack O’Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell. It features set design by David Rockwell, costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting design by Kenneth Posner, and sound design by Steve C. Kennedy.

The U.K. tour is scheduled to run through January 9, 2011, with engagements in Glasgow, Southampton, Wolverhampton, Leeds, Manchester, Plymouth, Liverpool, Sunderland, Milton Keynes, Oxford, Birmingham, Bradford and Edinburgh, with further dates to be announced.
