Victoria Grove, Nika Khitrova to Star in West End Run of La Chunga

Second Skin Theatre will present the return of the UK premiere of Mario Vargas Llosa’s La Chunga at the Phoenix Artist Club in the West End, January 24-February 19. Llosa, winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize for Literature, will be in attendance at the opening.

Set in 1950s Peru, this masterful tale of fantasy and delusion finds self-styled ‘superstuds’ whiling away the hours over endless drinking and games of dice at the infamous ‘Chunga’s Bar’. The arrival of the
beautiful Meche exposes their innermost desires and dreams until even the impervious bar owner, Chunga herself, falls under the spell of this enigmatic beauty.

Andy McQuade directs the production, which will star Victoria Grove as Chunga and Nika Khitrova as Meche. The cast will also feature Corin Rhys Jones (Lituma), Marco Aponte (El Mono), and Tyler Coombes (José), with Patrick Doherty and Stephen Connery-Brown sharing the role of Josefino.

The creative team will include Mike Lees & Richard Sleeman (set), Vasiliki Syrma (costumes), and Anna Sbokou (lighting).
