John Hurt has been named as the recipient of The British Academy of Film and Television Arts' Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema Award, which will be presented to him at BAFTA's Orange British Academy Film Awards ceremony at London's Royal Opera House on Sunday February 12. Stephen Fry will host the ceremony, which will be broadcast on BBC One

Hurt is best known for his film work, including starring in the film version of The Elephant Man. He has had a long stage career in England appearing in such plays as The Importance of Being Earnest, The Caretaker, and The Seagull. Earlier this season, he starred on the New York stage in a production of Krapp's Last Tape at BAM.
