Oscar-Winnng Composer John Barry Dies at 77

Five-time Academy Award-winning composer John Barry has died at age 77, according to published reports.

Barry worked as a composer and/or conductor on over 100 movies and television projects, including many of the James Bond films, such as Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever.

His numerous other credits included Cry, the Beloved Country, The Lion in Winter, Midnight Cowboy, Love Among the Ruins, Born Free, Chaplin, Out of Africa, The Glass Menagerie, Mary, Queen of Scots, Somewhere in Time, and Dances With Wolves.


In addition, he and Don Black co-wrote the hit musical Billy, adapted from Billy Liar, which starred Michael Crawford and ran for more than two years in London.

He is survived by his wife Laurie, his four children, and five grandchildren.
