Judi Dench, Bruce Norris et al. Win South Bank Awards

Dame Judi Dench and Bruce Norris were among the winners at the South Bank Sky Arts Awards. The awards were presented at a lunchtime ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel, and will be broadcast in the U.K. tonight, on Sky Arts 1.

Dench won the award for Outstanding Achievement, which was presented to her by Sir Peter Hall. Norris won for his play Clybourne Park which had its London premiere at The Royal Court, and transfers to the West End’s Wyndham Theatre later this month.

Additional awards were given to BBC Philharmonic and the Halle for Mahler’s 8th Symphony (classical music), Rev on BBC 2 (comedy), Akram Khan’s Gnosis (dance), Monsters directed by Gareth Edwards (film), What to Look for in Winter: A Memoir in Blindness by Candia McWilliam (literature), Welsh National Opera’s Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg (opera), Plan B’s The Defamation of Strickland Banks (pop music), This is England ’86 on Channel 4 (TV drama), and Tacita Dean (visual arts).
