George O’Dowd, aka Boy George, was sentenced to 15 months in jail for falsely imprisoning Audun Carlsen, a hired male escort, according to published news reports.

Carlsen had alleged that the composer/singer restrained him with handcuffs when he was at O’Dowd’s apartment in April. O’Dowd was convicted last month of the charge and had remained free on bail.

O’Dowd received a Tony nomination for his score to the musical Taboo, in which he also starred as performance artist Leigh Bowery. He is best known as the lead singer of the 80s pop group, Culture Club, whose hits include “Karma Chamelon” and “Do U Really Want to Hurt Me?”
