Earth, Wind & Fire is one of the most musically accomplished bands to come out of the '70s, incorporating jazz, smooth soul, gospel, pop, rock & roll, blues, folk, African music, and disco. The group was started by Maurice White, a Memphis-born, Chicago-reared drummer, who wanted to form a band that abolished the lines between musical genres and freely borrow from all styles of music without regard to convention. In doing so, Earth, Wind & Fire earned eight Grammy Awards, four American Music Awards, eight double platinum/Top 10 Pop albums, eight #1 R&B singles, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a year 2000 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Lifetime Achievement honors from the NAACP, ASCAP and BET. Earth, Wind & Fire and their music remains as inspirational and influential as ever.
