Broadway Melodies Featured in Nevada Pops’ 2009-2010 Season

Music from Broadway and the composers who have written for the stage will be featured throughout the Nevada Pops 2009-2010 season. The company has announced a lineup that includes three subscription series concerts and three special events.

George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” will be performed in Under the Lights (September 4), the Pops’ first concert of the season. The work will be performed by Scott Holshouser, the Houston Symphony’s principal pianist. In the Halloween-themed Tricks and Treats concert (October 30), music from The Phantom of the Opera and Wicked will be performed. The Pops also promise music from Broadway in the special event March for Music (September 26), a concert that will celebrate the tradition of musical marches.

The third subscription series concert will be Guy Movies (March 12), which will feature music from films such as Star Trek and Apocalypse Now. The two other special events will be a Christmastime concert (December 7) and the annual Memorial Day Extravaganza (May 28).
