Laura Eason, Gregory Hischak, and Marc Bamuthi Joseph have been selected as the winners of the Humana Festival’s National Ten-Minute Play Contest, with their entries to be performed during the final weekend of the Humana Festival of New American Plays.

Works will include Eason’s Mr. Smitten, directed by Kent Nicholson, about a woman who comes unglued in the veterinarian’s office when she discovers her beloved cat is not long for this world; Hischak’s Hygiene, also directed by Nicholson, about a girl sent home from school with a parasite growing out of her head; and Chicago, Sudan, written and performed by Joseph and directed by Michael John Garcés, which uses movement and verse to unlock a mother’s connection between an East African genocide and a Midwestern homicide.
