WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

What role does the family truly play in our development as a human being? Do we survive and become responsible, contributing members of our society because of our relationship with them, or in spite of them? These are some of the questions Carlo D'Amore explores in No Parole. This disturbing, zany, semi-autobiographical one-man show is the story of a mother who is a cunning, charismatic Peruvian woman with the potential to do anything. Her misguided brilliance creates a downward spiral which culminates in a prison sentence of eight years and a stroke. The story begins as an adult son is forced to take over the care of his destitute, estranged mother in their illegal NYC walk-up, taking the audience on a roller-coaster ride through his tumultuous memories: an extravagant childhood in Peru, a grafter's journey to America, struggles to survive in NY then thrive in California, a trial, jail-time and a debilitating stroke.
