Darkly comic and explosive, Praying Small is a cohesive series of finely-etched, compelling vignettes, painting the portrait of a bright, successful, charismatic young man who is nearly destroyed by his appetites and addictions. Perhaps unique in its perspective on substance-abuse, the play is at once unflinching yet non-judgmental, clear-eyed yet compassionate. Protagonist, Sam Dean, struggles for maturity and manhood in the midst of crippling choices and crushing irresponsibility. Sam's perilous journey through the myriad elements of his life comprise a terrific ensemble play that is part romance, part tragicomedy, seasoned with wry irreverence, brimming with raw honesty, and filled with rock-solid hope. Praying Small is written by Clifford Morts, and directed by Michael Colucci.
