New Beast Theatre Works continues exploring imaginative storytelling with the company's new, original play: Alfred, with a Knife. The production is written, designed and directed by a two man performance duo. It performs as part of the Summer Series at The Building Stage in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood.
Alfred is a marvelously curious boy, who performs wonderfully whimsical shows in his attic with his clownish companion, Mr. Lady. Together, the industrious duo presents a story displaying the magic of their tragic world. But, as Alfred and Mr. Lady are drawn further into the absurd situations and dangerous characters they play, as paint and cardboard turn to blood and bone, the two must fight to protect their cherished power of imagination. This surprising, fun, and fanciful tale exalts the imagination as the most lovely of human possessions.
Two performers play the entire cast of boisterous characters, utilizing projections, puppets, and an assortment of DIY scenic elements to draw the audience into a dreamy wonderland.
