MAIN STREET THEATER AT CHELSEA MARKET

Founded in 1975 by Rebecca Udden, Main Street Theater has become a significant contributor to the cultural life of Houston. From its outreach work with at-risk children to its commitment to producing the very best of contemporary and classic drama, Main Street Theater holds a unique place in the Houston Arts scene -- a theater whose commitment to the community is as profound as its commitment to live theater performance.

Main Street Theater's original location (and current administrative offices) was on Times Boulevard until 1996 when the Youth Theater program gained popularity with schools and it became apparent that a larger venue was needed to meet with audience demand. This second venue, with 196 seats, opened and met MST's capacity needs as a Youth Theater arena, and it currently houses all Youth Theater and Concert Musical productions, as well as part of the MainStage season.
