Theatre Under the Stars has added the Claude-Michel Schonberg-Alain Boubil musical, Les Miserables to its 2008-2009 season, replacing the previously announced Meet Me in St. Louis. Les Miz will perform at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, March 24-April 5.
Based on Victor Hugo's 1862 novel, the musical is set in early 19th century France, and tells the tale of reformed convict Jean Valjean, who conceals his true identity in hopes of forging a new life, Inspector Javert who relentlessly pursues him, and Fantine, the single working mother forced into prostitution to provide for her daughter Cosette.
TUTS' season will also include The Color Purple (September 16-28), White Christmas (December 4-21), Legally Blonde (February 10-22), Happy Days (May 12-24), and Cabaret (June 16-28).
