Suzanne Vega and Duncan Sheik's Lover, Beloved Premieres at Alley Theatre

Suzanne Vega stars in the production, paying homage to renowned Southern writer Carson McCullers.

The Alley Theatre's world-premiere production of Lover, Beloved: An Evening With Carson McCullers begins performances tonight under the direction of Jackson Gay.

Grammy-nominated song writer Suzanne Vega stars in the production that she cowrote with Tony and Grammy winner Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening). A play with music, Lover, Beloved pays homage to renowned Southern writer Carson McCullers (The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter and The Member of the Wedding) capturing McCullers’ instinctively rebellious nature and forward-thinking philosophies on race, gender, and love.

Lover, Beloved's creative team includes Jason Hart (music direction and arrangements), Takeshi Kata (scenic design), Jessica Ford (costume design), Paul Whitaker (lighting design), and Broken Chord (sound design). Kristen Larson is the stage manager.

Performances continue through March 11.
