Nathan Gunn and Elizabeth Futral to Star in Houston Grand Opera’s Brief Encounter

Nathan Gunn and Elizabeth Futral will star in the Houston Grand Opera’s world premiere of Brief Encounter, based on the play and film by Noel Coward, to run May 1-9, 2009. The production will be directed by John Caird, who also wrote the libretto, and feature music by Andre Previn.

The cast will also feature Kim Josephson, Rebekah Camm, Meredith Arwady, and Robert Orth; the creative team will feature Bunny Christie (sets and costumes) and Paul Pyant (lighting).

The HGO season will also include two operas based on the work of Shakespeare, Berlioz’s Beatrice and Benedict (October 30-November 14) and Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (January 23-February 6), along with Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana paired with Leoncavallo’s Paglacci (October 17-November 1), and Verdi’s Rigoletto (April 17-26).
