The Today Show aptly describes Playhouse on Park's final Mainstage Series show for Season Eight: "If you like Shakespeare, you'll like this show. If you hate Shakespeare, you'll love this show!"
Back by popular demand, and written by Adam Long, Daniel Singe,r and Jess Winfield, the cultural touchstone that is The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) features all 37 of Shakespeare's plays, performed in 97 minutes, by three actors. To celebrate the 20th anniversary two of its original writer/performers (Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield) thoroughly revised the show to bring it up to date for 21st-century audiences. Fast paced, witty, and physical, it's full of laughter for Shakespeare lovers and haters alike.
In Far Away, Caryl Churchill's fable about a world where the line has disappeared between the normal and the fantastic, beauty and horror, plain talk and poetry, Joan has just seen something she shouldn't have. Far from home, she hears screams in the night. She's uncovered a terrible secret that will change the course of her life. Churchill confronts our deepest fears, depicting a chilling world where everyone is at war, and not even the birds in the trees or the river below can be trusted.
Playwrights on Park Reading Series is a new and exciting artistic endeavor for Playhouse on Park to develop and produce original plays and musicals, to foster emerging and established playwrights, and to become a leader in new play development.
All readings include a talk back with the cast and the playwright and opportunity for audience members to complete a response card.
