She started her stand up comedy when she met Andy Kaufman. Boosler was the first female to get her own comedy special on cable when Showtime aired Party of One. Following rave reviews Showtime gave her a deal for three more specials. She is often credited as opening new doors for women in comedy. Other cable specials include: Broadway Baby, Top Tomata, Live Nude Girls, Elayne Boosler's Midnight Hour, Comedy From Here, and The Call. Boosler also appeared on the television hit Night Court.
