Bard College’s Fisher Center Announces Fall Season

Bard College’s Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts has announced the companies and pieces that will comprise its fall 2011 season.

The schedule includes the installation-theater piece, James Joyce, Marcel Duchamp, Erik Satie: An Alphabet, to be offered for two performances on November 11-12. The work, by John Cage, began life as a radio play centering on the title artists, that combines literal quotations, freely adapted historical materials, and lines invented by Cage, set within a score consisting of nearly 200 sounds. For the performances at Bard, the work will unfold within a stair-step stage structure, and the entire cast remains essentially in place, while the Narrator alone moves freely about.

The Fisher Center schedule also includes such dance offerings as Merce Cunningham Dance Company Legacy Tour (September 9-11) and an engagement by American Ballet Theatre (November 4-6), which will be comprised of four programs and feature dances by such choreographers as Twyla Tharp, Martha Clarke, and Paul Taylor.

Musical offerings at the venue will include a single performance of a tribute to composer Lou Harrison on October 15, and a two concert engagement by the American Symphony Orchestra (October 28-29).
