Lost in the Stars, The Music Man, et al. Set for Glimmerglass Festival 2012 Season

The Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown, New York has announced the selections for its 2012 season.


Tony Award nominee Marcia Milgrom Dodge will direct Meredith Willson’s beloved musical, The Music Man (July 14-August 26), starring Dwayne Croft as Harold Hill and Elizabeth Futral as Marian Paroo. The production will be conducted by John DeMain and feature sets by James Noone, costumes by Leon Weibers, and lighting by Kevin Adams.


Tazewell Thompson will direct Maxwell Anderson and Kurt Weill’s Lost in the Stars (July 22-August 25), starring Eric Owens as Stephen Kumalo and Sean Panikkar as the Leader. The production will be conducted by John DeMain and feature sets and costumes by Michael Mitchell and lighting by Robert Wierzel.

Artistic director Francesco Zambello will helm Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Aida (July 7-August 27), starring Michelle Johnson in the title role, Eric Owens as Amonsaro, and Daveda Karanas as Amneris. The production will be conducted by Nader Abbasi, and feature lighting by Robert Wierzel.


Marshall Pynkoski will direct Jean-Baptiste Lully’s Armide (July 21-August 23), starring Peggy Kriha Dye in the title role and Colin Ainsworth as Renaud. The production will be conducted by David Fallis and feature choreography by Jeannette Lajeunesse Zingg, sets by Gerard Gauci, costumes by Dora Rust D’Eye, and lighting by Bonnie Beecher.
