Playwright Tony Kushner and composer Jeanine Tesori's unconventional, through-composed musical was the recipient of six Tony nominations and the Olivier Award for Best Musical.
The year is 1963 and in the Gellman household in Lake Charles, Louisiana, eight-year-old Noah struggles with the loss of his mother, while Caroline, the family's African American maid, struggles as a single mom of four children. Through Caroline and Noah's friendship, Kushner and Tesori explore thoughts on economic hardship and racial inequity that are relevant today as they were in the early 60s.
The cast will also include Michelle Barber (Grandma Gellman), Larry Block (Mr. Stopnick), Doug Eskew (The Dryer and The Bus), Piper Goodeve (Rose Gellman), Caitlainne Rose Gurreri (Radio 1), Emily Jenda (The Moon), Gabrielle Porter (Radio 3), Christina Acosta Robinson (Radio 2), Danielle K. Thomas (The Washing Machine), James Van Treuren (Grandpa Gellman), Stephanie Umoh (Emmie), Price Waldman (as Stuart Gellman), and Regina Marie Williams (Dotty).
