Jasmine Guy to Star in Pearl Cleage’s The Nacirema Society Requests…

Jasmine Guy will star in Pearl Cleage’s The Nacirema Society Requests the Honor of Your Presence at a Celebration of Their First One-Hundred Years, to run September 24 – October 3 at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery, AL, before a October 20 – November 14 at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta. Susan V. Booth will direct the play, which focuses on a sextet of African-American debutantes in Montgomery.

On Broadway, Guy has been seen in The Wiz, Leader of the Pack, Grease and Chicago. The actress is perhaps best known, though, as Whitley Gilbert on A Different World. Among her other television and film credits are The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Touched By An Angel, The Vampire Diaries, Harlem Nights, and School Daze.

In addition, the Alliance has announced preliminary casting for its production of Tracy Letts’ August: Osage County (April 13 – May 8). The company will feature Brenda Bynum as matriarch Violet, along with Andrew Benator, Carolyn Cook, Richard Garner, Bart Hansard, Chris Kayser, Tess Malis Kincaid, Joe Knezevich, and Diany Rodriguez.
