News Article: But Don't Tell Sondheim!

Readers debate the necessity of "Momma, Look Sharp," "The Miller's Son," and other beloved (but tangential) show songs.

Actually, if you know Rapunzel, rampion should be familiar. Most of the versions I read as a kid mentioned that the mother-to-be had a craving for the rampion that grew in the witchs garden, thus beginning the whole mess. Rapunzel got her name because it was another name for rampion, according to those same tales.

As for Being Alive, I got the meaning the first time I saw it, and I was a teenager at the time. I have a hard time believing that New York audiences are less sophisticated than a high school student from Maine.

Useless songs- I Dont Know How To Love Him. Okay, its not completely useless; they needed something for Mary to sing there. But surely they could have come up with something better than this treacly piece of generic pop crap? Pretty much any song from Rent falls into this category, too.

To prove I have the guts to stand by my opinions, Ill even add my real name: Kate Cunningham.
