"Entrancingly Satisfying," eh? - 9:00AM on 10/23/2007
It is a misfortune of "Philoktetes" that it bills itself as an "updating" of Sophocles. It is nothing of the kind. Indeed, the actors could not be bothered to pronounce the name of the lead character correctly Its fill-ock-TEE-tees, guys. Sophocles drama is a profound meditation on the competing demands of citizenship and humanity, the value of truth, and the defining qualities of nobliity. Not so here. The current version is deaf and blind to the values that made the original great. A pity.
