Synopsis

The Alliance Theatre Lab is proud to announce the Florida premiere of the thought-provoking and paradigm-challenging play, My Name is Rachel Corrie. Actor Kim Ehly stars in this one-woman show, taken from the writings of Rachel Corrie and edited by Alan Rickman and Katherine Viner, as Rachel Corrie, a young American woman who lost her life in the Gaza Strip in March, 2003.

My Name is Rachel Corrie received its genesis at the Royal Court in London, playing to sold-out houses and garnering ecstatic reviews.  The story of an idealistic young woman, seeking to find an outlet for the "fire in her belly" -- and what happens when that idealism clashes with political and ideological realities --  struck a chord with audiences and critics alike.  The Daily Telegraph calls My Name is Rachel Corrie a "powerful, thought-provoking, and deeply moving piece of theatre," while the Independent describes it as "a stunning account of one woman's passionate response to a particular situation."  John Lahr of The New Yorker says, "Her words bear witness to the deracinating madness of war."

Passionate, incisive, and sometimes cheeky, the diary entries and emails from which the show is taken follow Rachel from her adolescence in the suburbs of Olympia, Washington, through the maturing of her intense idealism, to her decision to directly confront the injustices she saw in the world.  Through the artistic collaboration of director Adalberto Acevedo and actor Kim Ehly, the Alliance Theatre Lab brings to the stage the life of a twenty-three-year-old woman who was determined to challenge the uninformed complacency around her.
