The American Music Voices Project at Signature Theater in Virginia, funded by The Shen Family Foundation, is awarding a special grant to composer Jeanine Tesori.

In addition, there have been new commissions awarded to Chris Miller and Scott Davenport Richards, and special honoree grants to Josh Schmidt and Josh Rosenblum.

Tesori’s grant will be used to create a new musical for Signature. Previous AMVP Musical Theater Composer grants have been awarded to Ricky Ian Gordon, Michael John LaChiusa, Joseph Thalken, and Adam Guettel.

Tesori is a four-time Tony Award nominee for Twelfth Night, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Caroline, or Change and Shrek the Musical. She also composed the music for the New York Shakespeare Festival production of Mother Courage and Her Children, starring Meryl Streep, and the Off-Broadway musicalViolet, which received the New York Drama Critics Circle Award in 1997.
