Jimmy Smits to Host PBS’ Capitol Fourth Concert, Reba McEntire to Receive National Artistic Achievement Award

An initial lineup of performers has been announced for PBS-TV’s A Capitol Fourth 2010, to run Sunday, July 4, beginning at 8pm (EST). Jimmy Smits will host the event, which will be broadcast live from the West Lawn of the United States Capitol in Washington DC.

The show will feature country music singer and stage star Reba McEntire, who will be presented with the National Artistic Achievement Award in recognition of her dedication to enriching the national legacy of the performing arts as well as her lifetime of musical contributions.

Also scheduled to perform are Darius Rucker, classical pianist Lang Lang, and the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Jack Everly. The U.S. Army Herald Trumpets, The U.S. Army Ceremonial Band, The U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, Members of the Armed Forces carrying the State and Territorial Flags and the Armed Forces Color Guard provided by the Military District of Washington, D.C. will also participate. Additional performers will be announced shortly.

A Capitol Fourth will also be broadcast to U.S. service members around the world on the American Forces Network and on NPR Member stations nationwide.
