Tricycle Theatre’s The Great Game: Afghanistan and the National Theatre of Scotland’s Black Watch will launch U.S. tours from the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C. during the 2010-2011 season. Great Game will run September 15-26, at Sidney Harman Hall. Black Watch will play the venue January 25 – February 6.

Great Game is an exploration of Afghan culture and history told through 12 short plays in a three-part series. As previously announced, it will be seen at London’s Tricycle Theatre this summer, running July 23 – August 29. Other stops on the U.S. tour include the previously reported November 30 – December 19 run in New York at the Skirball Center as well as The Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis; Berkeley Repertory Theatre; and The Freud Playhouse in Los Angeles.

Black Watch, written by Gregory Burke and directed by John Tiffany, is based on interviews with former soldiers who served in Iraq and investigates what it means to be part of the legendary Scottish regiment, what it means to be part of the war on terror and what it means to make the journey home again. Additional U.S. engagements for the piece, which, as previously reported will be launching the tour in the U.K. with a new cast this September, will be announced at a later date.
