PHOTO FLASH: Dan LeFranc Receives 2010 New York Times Outstanding Playwright Award

Dan LeFranc was awarded the 2010 New York Times Outstanding Playwright Award for his play Sixty Miles to Silver Lake in a ceremony that was held on Thursday, May 13 at the TimesCenter. Arthur Sulzberger, Jr., the publisher of The New York Times, presented the award, which came with a $5,000 check.

The event included a Q&A with LeFranc and Times writer Jason Zinoman, and a short scene from the play performed by Joseph Adams and Dane DeHaan.

Attendees at the event included actors Valerie Harper, Tom Wopat, Constantine Maroulis, Steve Hayes, Patrick Heusinger, and Patrick Breen; talk show host Dick Cavett; playwright Edward Albee; director James Houghton; Vineyard Theatre artistic director Douglas Aibel and executive director Jennifer Garvey-Blackwell; ART/NY executive director Virginia Louloudes; producer Jamie deRoy; and many other notables from the theater community.

Sixty Miles to Silver Lake focuses on a divorced father and his teenage son as they take an emotionally exacting car ride together. The piece was originally produced by Soho Rep and is currently at The Studio Theatre in Washington, DC through May 16.

LeFranc’s many other plays include Origin Story, Bruise Easy, Night Surf, In The Labyrinth, The Fishbone Fables, Backyard, Kill The Keepers, and Catgut.
