The Sound of Broadway Music: A Symposium on Orchestrators and Orchestrations to Be Held in Washington, D.C.

The Sound of Broadway Music: A Symposium on Orchestrators and Orchestrations, hosted by the Library of Congress in Washington D.C., will be held at the Coolidge Auditorium in the Thomas Jefferson Building on May 6 and 7. Tickets are not required.

Journalist Steven Suskin, who recently wrote a book on the subject, and theater historian Robert Kimball will be the moderators. Panelists will include Jonathan Tunick, Sid Ramin, Larry Blank, Don Pippin, Elliot Lawrence, Ted Sperling, Marion Evans, Red Press, and Rob Fisher.

Topics will include the craft of orchestrations, reconstructing and conducting classic Broadway shows for revivals or concerts today, and a pit musicians’ view of working with orchestrators and their scores.
