Tracy Letts, Amy Morton, Anna Deavere Smith, John Grisham’s A Time to Kill Added to Arena Stage Season

Arena Stage has announced additions to its previously announced 2010-2011 season. It will present the world premiere of A Time to Kill, adapted by Rupert Holmes from the John Grisham novel, May 6-June 9. The play, which aims to move to Broadway following its Arena run, is about a man who takes vengeance after a crime his committed against his daughter, and the two idealistic lawyers who defend him.

Anna Deavere Smith’s solo Let Me Down Easy, directed by Leonard Foglia, will play December 31-February 13. Based on interviews with a wide range of subjects, the piece explores the power of the body, the price of health and the resilience of the spirit.

In addition, Arena has announced that its presentation of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (February 25-April 24) will be the Steppenwolf Theatre Company production, which as recently announced, will star Tracy Letts and Amy Morton.

The works to be presented as part of The NEA New Play Development Program Festival (January 17 – 30) will include The Brother/Sister Plays by Tarell McCraney, Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo by Rajiv Joseph, I’ve Never Been So Happy by Rude Mechanicals, Agnes Under the Big Top by Aditi Kapil, Happy End to Everything by Lloyd Suh, Detour/South Bronx by Claudia Rankine, and Steinbeck’s The Pastures of Heaven by Octavio Solis.
