Arena Stage Announces 2010-2011 Season, Including Oklahoma!, Ruined, Virginia Woolf

Arena Stage has announced eight of the events that will be part of its 2010-2011 season, the company’s inaugural year in its refurbished and new facilities at the Mead Center for American Theater.

The season will open with a revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! (October 23-December 26), directed by Molly Smith. It will be followed by the world premiere of Marcus Gardley’s portrait of life in Alabama, Every Tongue Confess (November 9-January 2), and Mary Zimmerman’s The Arabian Nights (January 14-February 20).

The theater will also present The Edward Albee Festival which will feature all 30 of the writer’s plays. Two will receive full productions, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (February 18- April 3), directed by Pam MacKinnon, and At Home in the Zoo (February 18-April 17). Others will be seen in staged readings with a schedule to be announced at a later date.

The season will also include director Charles Randolph-Wright’s staging of Lynn Nottage’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Ruined (April 22-June 5), The NEA NPDP New Play Festival (January 17-30), and two productions to be announced.
