Maurice Hines to Choreograph Cool Papa’s Party at Metrostage

Stage and screen star Maurice Hines will choreograph the Metrostage production of Cool Papa’s Party, to run February 5-March 15. The show is written and directed by Thomas W. Jones II.

Cool Papa’s Party is a 20th century musical odyssey seen through the eyes of Cool Papa. The show covers the 1920’s, the Civil Rights movement, and up through the 1980’s with song and dance, especially tap.

The cast will be led by Jahi Kearse, and feature Ben Horen, William Hubbard, Anthony Manough, Gia Mora, Roz White, and Lori Williams. The creative team will feature Herrick Goldman (lighting ), Carl Gudenius (set), and Kristina Lucka (costumes).

Hines received a Tony nomination for his performance in the revue, Uptown…It’s Hot!, which he also directed. Additional Broadway acting credits include Eubie! and Bring Back Birdie. He was most recently represented on Broadway with his direction and choreography of Hot Feet.
