Casting has been announced for the two world premiere productions to be presented as part of The Denver Center Theatre Company's Colorado New Play Summit.
Piter Marek, Mahira Kakkar, Laith Nakli, Alok Tewari, Reema, Nasser Faris, and David Ivers will star in Michele Lowe's Inana (January 16-28), to be directed by Michael Pressman. The play is a love story about an Iraqi museum curator's desperate attempt to save an ancient and treasured statue before the US invasion of his country. The creative team will include Vicki Smith (set), David Kay Mickelsen (costumes), Ann G. Wrightson (lighting), Morgan A. McCauley (sound), and Lindsay Jones (composer).
Kelly McAndrew, Jeanine Serralles, Charlotte Booker, Sam Gregory, and Chloe Nosan will star in Cusi Cram's Dusty and the Big Bad World (January 23-February 28), directed by Kent Thompson. The piece is a story about bigotry and the censorship of Dusty, a public television children's series about a dust ball. The creative team will include William Bloodgood (set), Bill Black (costumes), Charles R. MacLeod (lighting) and Jason Ducat (sound).
As previously announced, the summit will also include Kathleen Marshall directing a reading of Dick Scanlan's new adaptation of the Meredith Willson musical, The Unsinkable Molly Brown (February 12-14), and readings of Eventide by Eric Schmiedl, based on the novel by Kent Haruf; When Tang Met Laika by Rogelio Martinez, about the American-Russian collaboration on the International Space Station; Take Me to the River by Constance Congdon, about a farming family and based on real stories; and Flooded by Julie Marie Myatt, about a TV meteorologist turned oracle.
