WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

There are no easy families. James R. Cannon's A Folded Flag explores the nature of deception in a family, and the choices people make when the world around them is collapsing. It is the early '90s and octogenarian Abbey Grigson is dying, her illness causing her to relive that period in her life when guilt and grief led her to emotional hibernation. Abbey's surviving son Ben is dealing with a reality very different from his mother's -- one based on factual knowledge about the past that differs dramatically from what he was told growing up. The Zimmermans are refugees from Nazi Germany, trying to make their way in a land full of promise -- but also full of potential pitfalls. The lives of the Grigsons and the Zimmermans come together first with a bump and then with a crash, and what happens in the span of a few short months at the dawn of WWII reverberates decades after. With a backdrop of both World War II and the 1991 Gulf War, A Folded Flag explores the nature of deception and the dire and tragic consequences resulting from questionable choices made -- all in the name of love. Christopher Leo directs.
