Public Theater, Dallas Theater Center Receive Grant to Co-Produce Michael John LaChiusa’s Giant

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre has awarded The Public Theater and Dallas Theater Center a National Fund for New Musicals grant to be used for a co-production of Michael John LaChiusa and Sybille Pearson’s Giant. The musical, based on Edna Ferber’s 1952 novel of the same name, was originally presented at the Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA. No timeline has been announced for the New York/Dallas productions.

Three other organizations have received grants for full productions, including Human Race Theater Company in Dayton, OH, for Gregg Coffin’s Right Next to Me; TheaterWorks in Palo Alto,CA, for Larry Grossman, Carol Hall and Duane Poole’s A Christmas Memory and Ford’s Theatre in Washington, DC for Adam Abraham, Eric R. Cohen, Marc Madnick and Michael Weiner’s Liberty Smith.

Among the other awardees for workshops, readings and early developmental work are CAP21 and Lark Play Development Center in New York, Village Theater in Issaquah, WA, and Theater Latte Da in Minneapolis, MN.
