Douglas Carter Beane’s Give It Up!, Revised Superman Musical Highlight Dallas Theater Center’s 2009-2010 Season

Dallas Theater Center has announced selections for its 2009-2010 season, which will be produced in the new Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre at the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts.

The season will include the world premiere musical Give It Up! (January 15-February 14), featuring book and lyrics by Tony nominee Douglas Carter Beane, with music by Lewis Flinn. Dan Knechtges will direct and choreograph this update of the classic Greek comedy Lysistrata, set in an American college gym where the cheerleaders teach the basketball team their real power to ‘Just say no!’

Another highlight will be the first outing of a newly revised version of the musical It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Superman (June 18-July 25) featuring a new book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa based on the original by David Newman and Robert Benton. The show, about the popular DC Comics character, features music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Lee Adams, and will be directed by Kevin Moriarty, and choreographed by Joel Ferrell. Cast members will include Hassan El-Amin, Sean Hennigan and Cedric Neal.

The season will also include A Midsummer Night’s Dream (October 24-November 22), directed by Kevin Moriarty; A Christmas Carol (December 1-27), directed by Joel Ferrell; Neil LaBute’s The Beauty Plays (February 23-May 23), directed by Matthew Gray, Kevin Moriarty, and Joel Ferrell; and Death of a Salesman (April 16-May 16).
