Tony Award nominated director and original West Side Story cast member Grover Dale will direct the Lyric Stage production of West Side Story, which will open the 2008-2009 season, September 5-14. The cast will star Antonio Jimenez as Bernardo, Christie Peruso as Anita, Micah Shepard as Tony, and Kimberly Whalen as Maria. The cast will also feature Alexander Arroyo, Koreyci Barreto, Kellie Carroll, John Davies, Melody Denoia, Tyler Donahue, Jeremy Dumont, Harry Feril, Gordon Fox, Meghan Fluker, Lili Froehlich, Francis Fuselier, Sergio Garcia, Philip Groft, Donald Jordan, Stephen Langton, Mario Martinez, Jason Mayfield, Angela Moore, Amanda Passanante, Brett Quine, Peter Romaniello, Kristin Smith, David Staggers, Ryan VanCompernolle, and Hannah West. Jay Dias will conduct a 32 piece orchestra as musical director, Kate Swan will recreate Jerome Robbins' original choreography, and the design team will include Bill Eickenloff (sound), Drenda Lewis (costumes), Julie Moroney (lighting), and Jane Quetin (set).
Other season productions will include Fiorello!, October 10-25, which tells the story of the rise to power of New York's Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia; Tony Award-winner Donna McKechnie's solo piece, Donna McKechnie: Gypsy in My Soul, January 30-31; As Thousands Cheer, April 24-May 9, with sketches by Moss Hart and music by Irving Berlin; and The King and I, June 19-28.
