Synopsis:
Candide is considered a key text of the European Enlightenment and a classic of world literature. In this hilarious picaresque adventure, Voltaire sardonically skewers the metaphysical philosophy of optimism, religion, politics, and the romantic adventure stories which were popular during his time. Through the constant misfortunes of the title character, Voltaire showcases his considerable wit while posing meaningful questions about the nature of human suffering.
