Synopsis:
Rome and Jewels is West Side Story and Romeo and Juliet retold through the eyes of a hip-hop poet. The full-evening work mixes these tragic storeis with the aesthetic of contemporary hip-hop dance, music, the voice of the DJ and the spoken word of the MC/rapper. The narrative consists of original Shakespearean text while the score combines origian music, re-mixed and edited samples of popular music, along with a hip-hop "orchestra."
