Synopsis:
In his book Too Great a Temptation, Dr. Joel Gregory tells of his experiences vying for the job of head pastor, then held by legendary Baptist spiritual leader Dr. W.A. Criswell. In 1990, Gregory was hired to be Criswell's self-appointed protege and successor. 22 months later, he abruptly resigned from the job and dropped out of the church entirely. GOD'S MAN IN TEXAS serves up a pointed, behind-the-scenes look at the reasons why, the men behind organized, mass merchandised religion, the dangers of pride and ambition, the battles for power between generations and the redemptive power of faith.
