Synopsis:
In New York City, where there are countless awards for theater, there is only one major, comprehensive award show for New York City's Nightlife: The Nightlife Awards.
The multiple Emmy Award winning Bruce Vilanch who is famous for, among other things, writing the Academy Awards television broadcasts, hosts.
More than two-dozen critics and experts on four different panels judge the best performances of the year in cabaret, comedy and jazz. Then the winners, rather than make acceptance speeches, perform to show why they were chosen. That makes the Nightlife Awards the most entertaining awards show in the world! It's simply bang, bang, bang entertainment from the greatest entertainers in the world (they're the best in New York, so naturally, they are the best in the world), and they are introduced by a bevy of celebrities, themselves. Past presenters have included Liza Minnelli, Patti LuPone, F. Murray Abraham, Tony Danza, Robert Altman, and Sandy Duncan.
[title of show] transfers to Broadway, while Sean Hayes, Jane Krakowski, and Cheyenne Jackson headline Damn Yankees and Jonathan Groff, Will Swenson, and Caryn Lyn-Manuel star in Hair. Additional highlights include Alan Cumming in The Bacchae, Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes in Gate/Beckett, and Jamie Farr and Anita Gillette in Flamingo Court.
